Royals place Gathright on DL

Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - The Kansas City Royals placed outfielder Joey Gathright on the 15-day disabled list with a bone bruise in his right shoulder and recalled outfielder Mitch Maier from Triple-A Omaha.

Gathright is hitting .251 on the season and has gone 21-for-25 in stolen base attempts.

The 26-year-old Maier steps into the big league riding an eight-game hitting streak at Omaha. He went 1-for-4 in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Rays.
