Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - The Red Wings re-signed defenseman Jonathan Ericsson and goaltender Jimmy Howard to three-year contract extensions Monday. Per team policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Ericsson, a ninth round selection by Detroit in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, played in eight games with the Red Wings last season, tallying one goal while posting 34 points in 69 games for the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.
Howard, 24, posted a 2.18 goals-against average in four games with the Red Wings last season. He posted a 2.83 GAA in 54 games for the Griffins and was named the AHL goaltender of the month in December 2007. He was the 64th overall selection by Detroit in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Both players were selected to the AHL all-star team last January.
