Houston, TX (Sports Network) - The Houston Rockets signed free agent guard Brent Barry to a two-year contract Thursday, as announced by general manager Daryl Morey. Per team policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 15th overall selection of the 1995 NBA Draft has career averages of 9.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 856 games throughout a well-traveled 12-year career.
Barry's three-point abilities have made him a commodity for championship- contending teams. He ranks eighth in career three-point field goal percentage (.407) and sixth in career three-pointers made (1,346) among active players.
A two-time champion with the San Antonio Spurs in the 2004-05 and 2006-07 campaign, Barry has also made stints with the Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls and Seattle SuperSonics.
"Brent is a proven winner who brings a wealth of championship experience," Rockets owner Leslie Alexander said. "His playmaking and long-range shooting abilities are an ideal fit for Coach Adelman's system while his versatility allows us to use him in a variety of roles."
A season ago, Barry played in 31 regular season games and averaged 7.1 points and shot 48.1 percent from the field for San Antonio. He was part of a mid- season trade with Seattle, where he spent five seasons earlier in his career, but did not suit up for the Sonics. He instead was waived and signed back with the Spurs before their playoff run, which ended in the Western Conference Finals at the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers.
The 1996 NBA Slam Dunk Champion has ties in Houston, as both his father, Rick, and brother, Jon, both spent two seasons of their career with the Rockets.
